My Next Chapter ...
Feb. 24th, 2026 08:20 pmI don't know who may or may not see this, but as a way of introduction:
I'm transferring over here from a different journal service. Well, sort of. I will keep that account open, but am taking this in a bit of a different direction.
Proper Name, Place Name, Backstory Stuff
I posted a "Hello World" post on "the other site" on June 16, 2003. That was before any of my kids were born, before I started working at my current job, before we moved out of our apartment into a house. My brother had an account and it looked like fun, so I signed up. Then I abandoned it.
About a year later, I posted a rant about my job at the time. Next post was another "work rant". After that, I started writing down my dreams. Some of them were, "That was fun, I want to remember this!" Some were, "Is there a deeper meaning here?", and some were simply "Where the heck did that come from?!"
Along the way, I started posting other things -- thoughts on movies, end-of-the-year surveys, and some of my writings. I'm not a great writer. I've never "published" anything except what few things I've dropped onto my journal (or onto a short-lived site that I used to have.) But I wrote for the fun of it, and I posted it so my one fan (my brother) could read it.
Life got busy, with a full-time job, a wife, and a couple of kids, so my journal kinda fell by the wayside. I'd post every now and then, but I'd go for months at a time without even logging in. Along the way, Site-Which-Shall-Not-Be-Named got bought out and moved overseas. I won't get into politics, but between that and the ads getting more and more obnoxious, I nearly stopped journaling altogether.
But I kept writing.
They stayed either as text documents or Google Docs, just for my own amusement, but part of me wanted to share them. Sure, I could email out links to my Google Docs to anybody who cared, but it didn't quite feel the same.
Then the other day, as I was looking up some information on "The Journal", I found this place. It sounded like the place "Other Site" used to be. So I thought I'd check it out. I love the design, I love the "mission" behind it, and I also love the character limit on posts. :)
Yes, I'm a decade and a half late, but better late than never, right?
I'm not going to abandon my old journal -- I'll still use it for dreams, rants, and stuff like that -- but I am going to use this for my stories from now on.
So join me as I start the next chapter of my journey ...
